In the space of a year you find very varied atmospheres and activities in the villages of Galicia. Attitudes, feelings and traditions, ranging from the feasts and parties in the summer to withdrawal at All Saint's day for the winter, from the melancholy reflection of autumn to the new birth we all feel in the spring.
Avelaiña portray this variety in their fourth album "Ciclo". A conceptual CD which is the centrepoint of their live show: "O Ciclo do Camiño", and in which the band offer to share their music accompanied by projections, narrations and lighting effects.
Avelaíña released its third CD, entitled Traditium. This new album was released at christmas'08. The disc consists a total of 10 vocal and instrumental tunes where the mixing between traditional and original melodies, is, more than ever, a sign of identity. The group combines tradition and modernity in his music.
Traditium is a step in the career of this group. Following the path begun by "Xan e Sabela", their second album, this new proposal continues to be a journey from ancient African´s percussion and Galician´s melodies, to the new arrangements and instrumentation of contemporary music.
Avelaíña released this CD in 2006 . A proposal with 14 pieces that follow the same thread: the story of Xan and Sabela, a Galician couple who lived during the last years of the nineteenth century. Their relationship is made known through the lyrics of 8 songs that are interspersed with six instrumental pieces.
All compositions are joined by environments, without spaces of silence. The instrumentation on this album is well balanced: folk music is mixed with other electric, electronic and acoustic instruments . It continues to use unusual time signatures to "wake up" the ears of whoever is listening.
The group began in 2000 working on a number of pieces that result in recording in 2001 a CD entitled Proxecto, composed of 10 songs based on cultural tradition in Galicia.
The themes of this album focus on tradition, both in lyrics and in music, but still investigating with new arrangements and instrumentation, mixing sounds and introducing unusual time signatures in our folklore. This work features the participation of Guillerme Ignacio with flutes and bagpipes and Roi Maceda with his accordion, musicians from the well-known group Quempallou.
